On Thursday, November 7, 1907, a trainload of dynamite was headed to the town of Nacozari, Sonora, to supply the mine called "Pillars" that was located 4 miles from town.

One of the cars caught fire while the train was in motion, then Jesús García Corona, a young train-engineer who was 26 years of age, by his choice, took control of the train and take it out of town.
Thanks to this act, he saved the lives of hundreds of people, sacrificing his own life. Since then Jesus Garcia is known as the Hero of Nacozari.

When dynamite, inside the train, exploded, the explosion was heard almost twenty kilometers away and the body of Jesus Garcia, launched by the front of the machine, was identified only by his boots.
That day 13 people were killed in total: Jesus Garcia and 12 more that were close to the railway, but the villagers were saved by the timely action of Jesus Garcia.
In 1944 was developed a nationally decreed that every November 7 will be held, in Mexico, the Railroader's day.
